We are not proponents of a strictly “house church only” model. However, there are several reasons we have chosen to meet in a home.
First, scripture presents the normal occasion and unique benefits of more intimately and deeply connected congregations that meet in homes (Acts 2:46; Acts 5:42; 20:20; 1 Cor. 16:19; Rom. 16:5; Col. 4:15; Phil. 1:2).
Secondly, our finances are able to be focused more on the immediate needs of the church (support for the pastor, financial struggles, community outreach etc.) rather than large overhead cost from a building.
Third, planting more churches in Southwest Houston becomes more feasible and economical.
Fourth, the reaction to Covid-19 has shown that a building becomes a liability that governments feel they can regulate and control. Meeting in a home provides more freedom for the church to meet when, where, and how we see fit.
Fifth, our congregation is intentionally small because we intend to plant more churches as we grow rather than increase the size of the building. This allows our pastors to have more intentional and meaningful contact and relationships with our church members and thus fulfill God’s purpose for us as shepherds of His people (Heb. 13:17; 1 Pt. 5:1-4).
